Orthotic Active supports New Zealanders and their active lifestyles. If function, pain or mobility prevents you from living to the maximum, assistance might be closer than you think.

Privately-Funded Referrals

Specialists, sports physicians, GPs, podiatrists, physiotherapists and other health professionals can directly refer private patients to an orthotist for assessment and provision of orthotics. For complex pathologies, we recommend patients see a medical specialist first.

ACC-Funded Referrals

In cases where orthotic treatment can be covered under ACC, you may need to meet the following criteria:

• An orthotic prescription from a registered medical specialist. GPs, sports physicians and some specialist hand therapists are also recognised.
• Obvious cause and effect. The need for orthotics must be without question caused by the accident.
• In some cases, prior approval. We are happy to apply to ACC for funding on behalf of clients.
• Additional criteria related to accident date, hospital discharge or elective surgery may affect eligibility.

Rehabilitation

Clients who are undergoing treatment at other services may be referred to Orthotic Active for further medical care. Discuss your orthotic needs with your health professional, such as your physiotherapist, physician or health care provider for early orthotic assessment to maximise function and minimise complications. We work with a full range of neurological conditions including strokes, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, balance issues and fall prevention, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and vestibular dysfunction. As well as neurological conditions we have a long history and many years experience in treating musculo-skeletal conditions too, including sports related Orthopaedic and soft tissue conditions.

Scheduled for Mid-December 2017 we will have the additional benefit  of force-plate and digital video analysis, to further assist in treatment planning and orthotic provision. We can undertake private force-plate and video analysis or happy to accept ACC referrals from your primary health care professional.
